The Jab
Start off in Combat Stance. (see stances)
As you start to bring
your right arm forward, position your first 2 knuckles as they are going to
connect with your imaginary oppenent's nose, lip, or chin.
Keeps your elbow slightly bent (or "soft") as you finally turn your fist so that your thumb is pointing toward the floor. Your shoulder barely touches your cheek, your back arm is guarding your face, and, lastly, release your front heel engaging your hip.
Defense
benefit: Stuns your oppenent, giving you a moment to set up your
"knockout" move.
Fitness benefit: If you turn your arm upon extension, (think
"corkscrew") so that your thumb faces the floor (see figure
3) you start to warm up your shoulder, therefore activating it and, as
a result, your shoulder will start to get shaped.
